It’s the start of the season for most… Time to get your weekend warrior or your fully purpose built race cars out of storage.

Time to change out the old fluids that’s been just sitting for months.

When it comes to cars, people have different motives and objectives, and you need to know what to put into your car based on these concepts.

There are many brands out there, and they all claim to be the best… but the true test comes from oil analysis.

A car mainly used for track events might use a race oil with higher zinc content, and has less detergents, but formulated to provide more wear protection.

A car used mainly for daily driving might want to use fluids with high detergency, which allows extended drain intervals and provides increased cleanliness.

GL-5 gear oils are just too slippery for manual transmissions, so a GL-4 needs to be used, however certain vehicles do require GL-5 fluids for the transmission.

These are just couple of factors to consider before going out and purchasing what people consider to be the best or the right type of fluids for their car.

BRZ Testing

I got a chance to drive a BRZ. First impressions were good. Pretty roomy inside and nice supportive seats. The rear seats are good for carrying groceries, nothing more. Although this model was an auto, the trans shifted quick and firm. Intake noise was surprisingly loud, which was good, makes you want to keep your foot down. The suspension was firm and made the car feel very nimble. The diff worked well, car is driftable right off the showroom floor (don’t ask how i know ) . Car is small but not miata small, more like 240sx size. There was good midrange tq but the engine could use more top end. I’m sure with some mods, you can easily fix that. I think the styling is good, lowered and aggressive wheels, this car will look awesome!

Competition Clutch / Flywheel – EVO X: PART I

The guys at Competition Clutch sent over their new Stage 3 Performance SCC Segmented Ceramic Clutch Kit along with an Ultra Lightweight Steel Flywheel to test out on one of our in-house EVO X’s.

Utilizing a segmented cerametalic friction material on both sides of the clutch, the Stage 3 is able to hold an increased torque load of 80-100% depending on application:

Weight on the flywheel varies from 8lbs to 10lbs depending on application, and the EVO X weighs in at 9.60lbs:

S13.4 Hybrid Valve Cover – Crisco!

We have been receiving more and more inquiries for the S13.4 hybrid valve cover, which Brian at MA started!
We do offer this service at TFWorks.

What is it?
It’s a hybrid valve cover which takes the S13 SR valve cover and the S14 SR valve cover to make one awesome valve cover.
What does it do?
If you have a S13 SR, and you have an oil catch can… you’ve probably seen your catch can fill up before the day is even over. This is due to no internal baffling in the S13 SR valve cover. S14 SR valve cover does have internal baffling, which prevents all of the oil to just end up in the catch can.
Why?
The internal baffling of the S14 valve cover redirects the oil back onto the camshafts, instead of going straight to the catch can.
How?
Since the S14 SR valve cover won’t just bolt onto the S13 SR…. you have to Frankenstein the two together using
the Front portion of the S13 SR valve cover and the main body of the S14 SR valve cover which contains the baffling.

New WORK Meister CR01 Released!

To pay homage to the past, WORK Wheels just released a new nostalgic competition racing style wheel, the WORK Meister CR 01!

The WORK Meister CR 01 is a two piece construction wheel, utilizing a low pressure cast center disk with a spun forged step rim barrel. This wheel has a wide range of fitment for 15″ sizing, coming with widths ranging from 5.0″ through 12.0″.

Due to its two piece design, you can customize offsets within 1mm increments, allowing for fine tuning of wheel fitment. In addition, two piece wheels are stiffer and suitable for street or track use.

TOMEI 4AGE 16V/20V Development!

TOMEI has announced that 2011 will start the beginning of an all new 4AG/AE86 project with new product releases as well as further development of existing parts:

Their 4AG camshafts have been revised and all new H-Beam conrods have been released. Tomei is also looking to increase their available piston selection to further accommodate low compression turbo 16V projects, as well as high compression N/A and low compression turbo 20V applications.

The Tomei Full Counter Forged Crankshaft has been very popular ever since it was used in Ueo Katsuhiro’s famous D1GP AE86 Champion Machine. Tomei will now be making an all new increased stroke forged crankshaft for those wanting to increase their 4AG displacement.
